The two writers leave Smith's Grove Sanitarium and drive to Laurie's home, an intensely strengthened and bedraggled residence, and pay off her for a meeting, which she reluctantly acknowledges. Laurie has put over the most recent forty years managing post-horrendous pressure and getting ready for Michael's inescapable return. Her emotions have brought about two fizzled relational unions and losing authority of her little girl Karen at a youthful age. Aaron and Dana disclose to Laurie their enthusiasm for discovering why Michael submitted the homicides in 1978 and request that her meet with him in a last endeavor to inspire him to talk before he's exchanged to a most extreme security jail. Laurie shows them out of her home, yet not before taking the cash they advertised.
