In light of a true event, WOMAN WALKS AHEAD recounts the tale of Catherine Weldon, a widowed craftsman from New York who, in the 1880s, went alone to North Dakota to paint a picture of Chief Sitting Bull. Her landing in Standing Rock is invited with open antagonistic vibe by a US Army officer, who has positioned troops around the Lakota reservation to undermine Native American cases to the land. As Catherine and Sitting Bull develop nearer, and as their fellowship and, his life-are debilitated by imperious government powers, Catherine must battle with the viciousness that underlies her position.
